MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I was walking in the mall the other day finishing up some last minute shopping when I happened to pass a young lady. I made eye contact briefly and greeted her with a hearty “Merry Christmas!”

She stopped and said, “You mean ‘Happy Holidays’!”

My redneck mind thought for a split second or two and I replied, “No, I meant Merry Christmas!”

She stood dumbfounded and shocked that I’d stuck to my original statement. She then lowered her eyes and said, “Oh. Okay. Merry Christmas.” We then went our separate ways.

The thing about this meeting is that it was not my intention to be rude and I don’t believe that I was being rude. How is it that someone probably half my age feels that it is necessary to correct me from saying “Merry Christmas” and that I should say “Happy Holidays”? I celebrate Christmas and I make no apologies for that. But if people aren’t celebrating Christmas this time of year I’d like to know exactly what holiday they are celebrating? I realize that there are other cultures that celebrate holidays this time of year and that’s fine with me. What ever “holiday” you are celebrating, at least state what holiday you are celebrating.

Again, I celebrate Christmas. There is no reason I should not celebrate Christmas just because someone else doesn’t. Why should they be offended because I celebrate Christmas? I’m not offended that they celebrate “holidays” instead of Christmas.

I’m not going to be long winded on this issue. Christmas, to me, is celebrating the birth of Jesus and all the love, peace, hope and faith that His life on earth manifested. I enjoy sharing all those things with friends, family, and people who will listen. One thing is for certain, at least as far as I can see it. If you allow yourself to have a “Merry Christmas” then you will have holidays that are happy.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!
