2014 Mission Trip Challenge Update 1

God is good and faithful all the time. It has been a week since I officially launched the web site and issued the 2014 Mission Trip Challenge. I am believing in God to send to me 100 sponsors who sacrificially invest $40.00 each and be in prayer for the mission and the mission team. I am sacrificing food ( which I love) and time to exercise (not so much love there) to lose weight and be in the best possible health for the mission. Additionally, I am asking sponsors to send me their prayer requests so that I can be praying for them.

When I posted the challenge last week, I weighed in at 229 pounds. Today (January 11, 2014), I weigh 225 pounds! That four pounds lost in the past week. Now I know that seems like a lot of weight to lose in week’s time, and it is. However, I am a nurse and have more than a rudimentary understanding of nutrition and body function. Also, I have access to a Nutritionist. Most importantly, I have a God who hears the prayers of a righteous man. It is in God and God only that I have my strength.

As of this writing, I have two paid sponsors and four more who have promised to sponsor me the next time they see me within the next week. That is six sponsors! Only 94 sponsors to go! Thank you Lord for these people who have given sacrificially that your work may be carried to the remotest parts of the earth! I thank You Father for their prayers and ask most humbly that you hear my prayers on their behalf. Bless them Father for their investment into Your kingdom!

Alright now for more good news. Just before sundown this Sunday (January 12, 2014) I will begin a 21 day total fast, praying very specifically for fifteen things. What does that mean? It means for 21 days no solid food shall pass my lips. That means liquids only. Now before any of you starts preaching to me about Matthew 6 let me say that I am most clearly aware of what Matthew 6 has to say about fasting. I am also keenly aware about what Matthew chapter 6 says about praying and giving. That is enough said. I am informing all of you that I will be on this fast praying not only for fifteen very special things that are dear to me and to overcome certain things in my life (we all have them right?) but I am fasting and praying for YOU as well. There are two verses regarding fasting that are very dear to me. Of course there are many others but these two hold special meaning to me.

Ezra 8:23 “So we fasted and sought our God concerning this matter, and He listened to our entreaty.” (NASB95)

Luke 5:35 “But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days.” (NASB95)

Well, I promised an update and there you have it. Perhaps not as exciting as you might expect, but I am completely stoked in what I am experiencing in prayer and in my life as you all see me. Tune in for next week’s update. I can’t wait to see what God is going to do this coming week! God Bless!
